The Barn

The former home/studio of mid-century Modernist architect and teacher A. Quincy Jones, The Barn was renovated in conjunction with the Annenberg family, a repeat client of both FFP and Jones. The traditional wood building was originally designed as a photographer’s studio in 1950 and was remodeled by Jones for his own use in 1965. The Barn—a grand, sky-lit multi-purpose atrium surrounded by a variety of living and studio spaces—will further Jones’ legacy as the home for the Chora Council of Metabolic Studio, a multi-disciplinary project that engages art and philanthropy. A light touch was used in the renovation with the effort to preserve the integrity of the building for its renewed use as a live-work and social environment. Much of Jones’ furniture, art, books, and artifacts remain, adding to the feeling of being immersed in the ’60s and ’70s design ethos within a piece of cultural history.
