Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion, Colby College

The Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion Building is a 29,000 sf addition to the Colby College Museum of Art. The project includes 10,000 sf of new exhibition space, along with studios for the Foundation and Photography departments, additional art storage, study, and office spaces. A single, simple 3-story pavilion reestablishes the primary entrance to the Museum in this addition. The significant unique identity for the Museum is a departure from the existing Colby College campus aesthetic to create a more prominent and logical entrance to the facility. This new pavilion is conceived as a glass prism that will reflect its natural and architectural context in continuously changing images. The reflecting nature of the glass expresses the theme that art provides the opportunity to reflect on life.
